Skills and the Four Capacities

Curriculum for Excellence aims to help every learner develop knowledge, skills and attributes for learning, life and work, which are encapsulated in the four capacities: successful learners, responsible citizens, confident individuals and effective contributors.

At St Gerardine School we have been encouraging the children to develop these four capacities in everything they do at school and our awards are based on them. We are now beginning to further develop our work on the capacities by looking more closely at the skills children need to develop now and in the future in order to prepare them better for the world beyond school.

There are 8 Skills for Work from the Moray Skills Pathway which we are working on at St Gerardine:

  • Communication
  • Self-Management
  • Teamwork
  • Leadership
  • Interpersonal
  • Creativity
  • Thinking
  • Employability
